Mathway – Your Virtual Maths Assistant

Math is the only subject that has been rooted in another bunch of branches and the derivations. Each field out there has maths as the primary and essential element to proceed and to derive the theories. Of course, exceptions do exist. Keeping those aside, everyone and each of one us needs some help with the math problem-solving. Maybe in the form of approach, or a formula to be applied, or simply the steps to follow and proceed. The Mathway app does these things right and instantly.

Mathway Application brief

Mathway is the application that has been ranked no. one on iOS most useful educational applications. The application has millions of users, using the application already. Mathway has literally solved more than billions and trillions of problems of the students. The application instantly produces the results of simple math of Algebra of the primary level to the calculus sums of higher levels.

Mathway is very much user-friendly and easy to learn. You simply have to enter the math question on the application and wait a while till the application produces a result for you. The alternate way of inputting your math problem into the Mathway app is, simply click the picture of the problem. Cool! Isn’t it? All you need to enter the problem. And Mathway will work for you to get an accurate answer within a while, depending upon the difficulty level.

The Mathway: -Math Problem Solver iPad app is 10 calculators rolled into one

Whether you are a primary grade student working with basic math, algebra, or a high-grade graduate student dealing with the calculus, trigonometry, chemistry, or statistics, Mathway is capable to launch a calculator in a form of a virtual keyboard with the symbols and tools for the type of problem you need to solve. Moreover, the app can help you frame the problem to be sure it delivers what you need. It’s a valuable resource for both students and scientists, making it an Editors’ Choice educational app.

Mathway is a virtual tutor

The basic version of Mathway app, lets you solve the problems using its in-app virtual calculators, which is absolutely free. As mentioned before, if you want to see the steps that performed into solving the problems, you have to upgrade the Mathway into a paid version. Upgrading to the paid version will cost you either a $19.99 monthly subscription or $79.99 per year. Paying removes all third-party advertising. Mathway also lets you save your problem history, and access the step-by-step solutions from anywhere. Depending on the length of time you enable step-checking, it can run into some money, but your subscription can easily be canceled.

Moreover, the paid version can actually be your virtual tutor. Mathway will show you steps and formulas and how it actually arrived at them. Even the free version is a valuable tool for students, anyone involved in math or the sciences, or indeed anyone who occasionally needs to solve math problems that go beyond the abilities of the calculator function built into your computer. In case, if you are simply using the Mathway to deal with few numbers, there’s no reason to upgrade.

A Cornucopia of Calculators

The Mathway has a pull-down menu listing the app’s 10 subject areas: Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, Finite Math, Linear Algebra, Chemistry. Rest other subjects are also covered but would appear under one of the headings above. For instances, the Basic Math calculator includes keys marked with various geometrical shapes: square, circle, triangle, cube, cone, sphere, and cylinder, among others.

Mathway is the best Math Problem Solver with a variety of functions

The Mathway application does not have any guide or help as such. All you need to do is explore the app by yourself. For instances, pressing the calculator’s key marked with a circle calls up a circle with a dotted line denoting its radius (r), followed by “r = ?” with the question mark shaded in gray, inviting you to enter a value for r. If you input a value, say 1.3, and press Enter, a menu with the title “How should I answer?” appears, offering 10 choices, among them Find the Area, Find the Circumference, Graph, Evaluate the Function, and Convert to Radical Form.

Similarly, in the Trigonometry calculator, tapping the keyboard’s Sin/Cos brings to the foreground a keypad with 24 buttons – Sin, Cos, Tan, Sec, Csc, and Cot; Arcsin, Arccos, and so on. For example, if you press Sin and enter x, a list of operations appears under the question “How should I answer?” Pressing the first item, Graph calls up a graph of a sine curve.

Mathway has all the symbols needed for Math operations

All 10 of the calculators share the left-most 2/3 of the keyboard, which includes commonly used symbols such as the integers 0 through 9, the variables x, y, and z, open and close parentheses and brackets, signs for the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), an equals sign, exponents, and roots.

What differentiates them is the other third of the keyboard, whether it be the geometric shapes in Basic Math, the Trigonometry calculator’s 24 functions, or Calculus’s logs, summations, integrals, and limits, to name a few.

There are two ways to enter an equation in Mathway: either by using the keyboard or by photographing the equation with your iPad’s camera.

The input with the keyboard is a better option, though it needs some trial and error based attempts to enter certain items like exponents properly. Although entering equations simply by photographing them is a great idea, in practice the app didn’t do well in recognizing some of the characters.

Value Squared

The Mathway app is actually a lot more than one could ever need. The functionality that the app has is simply a complete package of all the terms a mathematician could ever need in his life. Mathway has all the operations and functions, you could need. I repeat, all. If you are unable to find the operation, take time to seek it away. Rest sure, it will be there present on Mathway. In case, the camera could not fetch you exact functionality, input the equation manually.

Mathway is exceptionally and exclusively very much good mathematics tool. If you are pursuing your sciences, or you are a math or science student, and frequently have to solve even mildly complex math problems, Mathway is definitely a boon for you. If you need to see the steps that go into calculating an answer, it will cost you extra bucks, but it is still a lot less expensive than paying for a math tutor.

How to upgrade Mathway into paid version?

To upgrade the app, you tap the Upgrade button that appears in a pull-down menu when you tap the gear icon at the screen’s upper right.

You then select between the $19.99 monthly and $79.99 yearly subscription, and when prompted, enter your Apple ID.

You are charged through your Apple account, rather than directly from Mathway.

If you tire of the paid version, or it doesn’t fit your needs, it is easy enough to cancel your subscription from your iPad’s Settings menu.

Mathway is compatible with the-

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch; there’s also an Android version. I tested it with an iPad Air 2 running iOS 10.3.

Mathway users review

Parents need to be aware of the fact that Mathway is extremely useful and distraction-free app for math solving. Mathway is not a cheat app. The app only shows answers on the free version. Students can benefit a lot from the app and learn how and when the steps are to be implemented. Although ads will pop up on a free version of Mathway, it is still distraction free. Mathway is an app as well as a website that lets users plug in math equations and tap on “Evaluate” to find solutions. As mentioned already, the free version of Mathway only gives the answers, but a subscription will give step-by-step solutions to problems in a wide variety of math types, including basic math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.

MATHWAY lets you plug in math equations and instantly see their respective solutions. With a paid subscription, they also get step-by-step instructions on how to arrive at that solution. You simply need to pick a subject. For example, trigonometry, pre-algebra or chemistry. A menu then displays useful related symbols and operations such as an integral symbol for algebra, and users can tap or select those tools to set up their equations. After setting up a problem, you need to tap “Evaluate” to see the answer, and they can tap the folder icon to add this problem to their Saved Problems list. You also can see a graph and graph functions on-screen, can create a custom practice worksheet based on a particular math topic from an extensive drop-down menu, and view an extensive glossary.

Even though the Mathway app can result into a great cheat tool for teens looking for a shortcut, this app has supportive features for guided practice that make it a worthy, flexible companion for math students through out the range of grade levels, especially with a subscription.

Creating custom worksheets is one best way to practice before a test, and the glossary is great because kids can browse alphabetically or by topic, and individual entries show up as highlighted, clickable text in the explanations of different problems. The graphing feature also is especially good in that it’s a simple, user-friendly way to neatly, precisely graph equations or illustrate geometric figures. The subscription is pricey for sure, and there will definitely be kids who will only use it to copy down solutions, so look for stark differences between homework and test performance as a possible indication of misuse; however, if used properly, the various features could help struggling kids or those who want to explore math beyond the classroom.

  • Parents, teachers or guardians need to talk with kids about how they might use the custom worksheet-creation feature before a quiz or test to review.
  • Talk more broadly and clearly about how a tool like Mathway is a good tool to check, guide and assist your work rather than to use it as a cheat tool.
  • Tell the kids to set up a problem on Mathway. Make your kid work out the problem with pencil and paper, have them explain each step she used to solve the problem, and then use Mathway to check the work. If you have the paid subscription, talk through the step-by-step solution and see how it matches up with your kid’s own work.
  • Kids and teens should ponder on – Have you created your own glossary of terms from the built-in glossary? What words are important to understanding for your current math class or syllabus? How are those terms related?

First Review

Miss Bookworm reviewed the app by saying, “As a person who relies on user reviews, I did not find many users at the college level leaving reviews so I decided to leave mine. I found this app to be a good tool, as a college student, I was able to do most of my algebra homework with this problem solver. After testing out other apps I found that Mathway continues to give the correct answer, I did not need to purchase the item for the problem explanations, but I am comforted by the thought that if I do need to purchase it the future I can just pay five bucks a day if need be.”

Second Review

Yvonne Brassfield, another Mathway user recommended using the app by reviewing the app as one of the best. Yvonne says, “Amazing app that allows you to complete different math problems, from basic math to advance operations. You just need to know how to input the information correctly otherwise some problems will not register. There is no fee for just the answers, and there is a monthly fee to show you the steps need to learn and obtain the answers. You might want to consider paying the fee, for additional help and to actually learn what you need to do. Between this app and (for all your calculator needs for free), my son is passing math. I’m telling everyone who has a child in school and is struggling with math about this app. It is a Godsend.”

third Review

E Willson, who also use the Mathway app for algebra problem solving, review by saying, “I started using this app in middle school when I took algebra 1 and I haven’t stopped using it. Now I’m taking pre-calculus and this app has been a lifesaver. I have it on my computer, phone, and kindle! It does suck that it doesn’t show the work without paying (which is why I gave a 4) but most of the time if you have an idea of what you’re doing you can work backward from the answer. Good luck with your math work!”

Forth Review

Such Rage found the Mathway app excellent and he reviewed by saying, ‘Math way is the only way dude. Equations, formulas, simple math, all that shot, BOOM! Solved like a mother trucking baus. It will totally get you the answer you want, the controls seem tricky at first, but you’ll quickly get a handle on it. Docked one star cause it Dosent let you see the work unless you buy a membership… other than that, I totally recommend”
